ICBC’s Safe Cycling Tips of the Week

Before you ride

  • Maintain your bicycle in good working order: Make sure that your tires are inflated to the pressure indicated on its sidewall. Check your brakes to ensure they are responsive. Clean and lubricate your chain and all moving parts of your bike so that it will respond quickly and safely when you are on the road.
  • Learn the skills needed to control your bike: Practice hand signals, shoulder checking, riding in a straight line, navigating around obstacles or bollards, and braking quickly in a safe environment like a parking lot or quiet street before you head out on busier roads.
